Lots of folks these days are interested in having a gun for home protection and want to know what Glock would best meet their needs. Here is a list with a brief description of the different .40 Glock that will maybe give you a better idea of what you might want.

• Glock 22 – Is a full sized semi-automatic handgun. This is an all around good handgun. A polymer framed pistol, it weighs about 23 ounces when empty, so it's rather lightweight. The standard magazine holds 15 rounds and the barrel is 4.5 inches long. This would be a great choice for home protection and target shooting. The disadvantage of this handgun is that it can be difficult to carry concealed due to its size.
• Glock 23 – The Glock 22's little brother, is a compact, semi-automatic handgun. Though it's smaller, the G23 weighs approximately the same as the G22. Standard magazine holds 13 rounds and the barrel is 4 inches long. This is probably the largest sized handgun that the average person can conceal comfortably.
• Glock 27 – Is a subcompact handgun which, at 27 ounces loaded, is small, lightweight, accurate, and very powerful. The standard magazine holds 9 rounds and the barrel is 3.5 inches long. The advantage of this handgun is that it is the easiest Glock to carry concealed.
• Glock 35 – This is the largest of the Glock 40s. It is meant to be a competition model - it's a real hand-cannon. Though it can be used for protection, it’s not a practical choice. It has a 5.3 inch barrel and the longest line of sight.
• Glock 22C – This is the compensated version of the Glock 22, which is supposed to have less recoil due to the compensator (2 long holes in the barrel and slide). If recoil is a problem for you, then you might want to talk to someone who owns one of them. But instead of going with a compensated version, try a smaller caliber pistol such as the Glock 17, 19 or 26, or get a Glock 22 or 23 and a 9 mm drop-in barrel.
• Glock 23C - compensated version of the Glock 23…As mentioned about the Glock 22C, If recoil is a problem, it would be better to go with a smaller caliber pistol or a 9mm drop-in.

For home protection and the occasional hobby shooting all you really need is a Glock 22. If you want to carry sometimes, especially with bulky clothing or a jacket then you might consider a Glock 23. If you want to carry a lot, then get a Glock 27. You can purchase a 9mm drop-in barrel for hobby or range/target shooting on any of these Glocks to save money. (9mm rounds are cheaper than .40)

Someone asked what was happening when he inserted the clip and the slide springs forward. Was a round chambered - if he pulled the trigger would the first shot require a harder trigger pull in order to chamber the round? Should he rack the slide in order to avoid a tougher trigger pull?

The first things to keep in mind is the Glock 19 is a semi-automatic pistol. It does not use a clip, the ammunition carrying device you insert into the handle is a magazine. If you insert a magazine with rounds in it and the slide goes forward it has chambered a round.

The trigger pull will be the same all the time, there is no way to chamber a round by pulling the trigger. And if the you have inserted the magazine with rounds in it, the pistol is hot.

When you remove the magazine and rack the slide (pull it all the way back and release it), if there were a round in the chamber it will eject and your gun will be unloaded. It is very important you remove the magazine before doing this otherwise you will just reload another round and your pistol will still be hot.

The internet is a marvelous thing. You can get information on almost every subject imaginable - including but not limited to a Glock. But can you buy a Glock online?

The truth is, it's not all that likely. The federal gun law of 1968 prohibits sales of guns through the mail (and also online). You can shop for them online, but you have to go through a dealer to actually finalize the purchase, verifying your ID and background, etc. The only time I ever heard of someone buying a gun online was when someone forged a dealer ID of some kind, which is a SERIOUS FEDERAL CRIME.

Glock is coming out with the new model "SF." (The "SF" stands for "Short Frame.") But just what does that mean? Will the frame be shorter? How exactly, from a physical standpoint, on a side by side comparison will these two Glocks differ? What additional features will be added or improved? And on a more practical note, will the mags be compatible between the two?

The SF designation is often mistakenly said to stand for “Slim Frame” or “Small Frame”. It actually stands for “Short Frame”. The SF frames provide a small diameter grip. This makes it easier for people with smaller hands to reach the trigger and is more comfortable to hold.

The SF is 0.3″ (3 tenths of an inch) shorter from back to front strap – meaning the grip is slightly smaller to accommodate those with smaller hands who could not comfortably hold a G20. The “SF” magazines will fit in standard G20’s but the old standard magazines won’t fit in the “SF”.

As far as additional features on the "SF", there don't seem to be any. The bottom line is, if you have smaller hands and find the regular Glock fits less firmly in your hands you might be better suited with a "SF" model.

So what should you expect to pay? If you are considering getting a used compact 9mm, a Glock or Baretta - in good condition and from a reputable gun shop, what might you expect to pay?

There is little doubt the part of the country you are from will have a bearing on how much you might expect to pay and it's a little beyond the scope of a general post to be too exact, but with that said, $400 should give you a decent selection of used 9mms.

Now as you might well expect, there are used glocks and then there are 'USED' Glocks. But I'm talking about reasonably well maintained pistols. Bear in mind also, in some states prices are driven up by availability, like in Mass where used Glocks are at a premium because new ones aren’t available to civilians.

But there are several points we should point out when listening to the left-wingers wanting to take away our rights. First and arguably foremost is you can make statistics say just about anything you want them to, depending on how adept you are with your presentation.

You've seen it before and have probably massaged a few statistics yourself to get the desired affect. So anytime someone is trying to woo you to a particular point of view based entirely on some statistic or other, be cautious to say the least.

Mostly this has to do with safe gun handling. Anyone handling a weapon in an unsafe manner runs the risk of injury whether they're a professional or not.

But more importantly it's what is not in these statistics that are important. What about the crimes not occurring because the person is armed. When convicted felons were surveyed, at least some had at some time decided not to do a crime because the intended victim was carrying a gun.

There's no real way of measuring how many crimes were averted by this one circumstance. Which rather negates any statistics put out there about the percentage of people who accidentally injure themselves with their own gun as verses crimes halted by the owner with their gun.

Just a little tidbit thrown out as our new more liberal representatives get into stride. Once the economy is less of a focal point, there will be other issues to claim their interest.
