How to Load a Glock Without Chambering a Round
By admin | March 25, 2009
The debate may rage on whether to carry your pistol hot or not, but how do you load your Glock without chambering a round? If this is your first handgun and have yet to take a safety course (everyone should take a safety course in short order after purchasing their pistol) this may be a little confusing.
First, if you are using a new clip or mag, the spring will be stiff and you may want to load the magazine with one less round than the magazine will hold. Then load a magazine with the slide closed and chamber emptied. If your Glock is new, it may take some time to wear in the magazine spring and magazine catch.
Once your magazine is loaded don’t rack the slide until you are ready to shoot. As mentioned before, there are those who believe you should have your Glock ready to shoot at any moment, those who think it's safer to not chamber a round until you are ready to shoot. I think it's a matter of why you have a pistol in the first place.
If you are potentially in harms way, such as on the job, being ready to shoot could be a matter of life and death. If however you have a pistol for home safety or sport, having a round chambered would not be such a critical thing.
